Poria cocos (Wolfiporia extensa), known as fu ling in traditional Chinese herbalism, is not a cap mushroom at all — it is a sclerotium, a dense underground body that forms on pine roots. It has been a foundational herb in East Asian formulas for centuries.

Our extract is an 18:1 concentrate produced by enzymatic and hot water extraction from the sclerotium itself, standardised to more than 35% beta-glucans and third-party verified. Poria is one of the most neutral-tasting extracts we make, which is why it shows up in so many traditional blends.

  • 18:1 dual extraction (enzymatic + hot water)
  • Standardised to over 35% beta-glucans
  • 100% sclerotium — no mycelium or grain fillers
  • Product of Canada
  • Organic, vegan, non-GMO
  • Third-party tested for heavy metals and microbials — COA on this page
  • Sizes: 36 g, 100 g, 250 g, 500 g, 1 kg
  • NPN 80141415

Who it's for: people following traditional Chinese herbal practice, and anyone who wants a mushroom extract with essentially no flavour to work around.

How to use: Adults 18 years and over: 1/2 to 1 teaspoon daily in tea, warm water, a smoothie or soup. Mild and neutral — it disappears into almost anything.

Recommended use: Used in Herbal Medicine to support the immune system. Provides antioxidants that help protect cells against free radicals. Source of fungal polysaccharides with immunomodulating properties.

Cautions: Consult a health care practitioner for prolonged use, before use if you have serious or major conditions, any type of acute infection, deficiency or excess, or if symptoms persist or worsen. May have a diuretic effect. Stop use if hypersensitivity or allergy occurs.

Mode d'emploi

Processus d'extraction/production

We use a very unique and effective dual or triple extraction process that includes enzymatic extraction, hot water extraction and even solvent extraction for certain mushrooms and/or desired compounds. This ensures that all of the beneficial nutrients are extracted from the mushroom fruiting body. It also breaks down the chitin.

Chitin is like the tough armor that mushrooms wear, similar to how insects have their exoskeletons. This armor protects the mushroom's cells, but it's tough for our bodies to break down and use as food.

For us to get the nutrients from mushrooms, we need to break down this armor into smaller, digestible parts. Enzymes called chitinases do this job. They break down the chitin into smaller pieces that our bodies can absorb and use for energy.

So, without breaking down chitin, we can't get the nutrients from mushrooms.

Wolfiporia cocos - an overview

Poria cocos, known as "Fuling" in Chinese, is an edible mushroom from the Polyporaceae family and has been a staple in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2000 years. It is used to promote urination, invigorate spleen function, and calm the mind. The mushroom's main bioactive component is Poria cocos polysaccharide (PCP), which constitutes 84% of its dried form. PCP has numerous health benefits, including antitumor, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-aging, anti-hepatitis, anti-diabetes, and anti-hemorrhagic effects. In the 1970s, PCP was sold as an over-the-counter supplement, and by 2015, it was approved by the Chinese FDA as a drug for treating various cancers and other diseases, often in conjunction with chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Studies over the past 46 years highlight its structure, pharmacological effects, clinical efficacy, immune regulatory mechanisms, and safety as an antitumor drug.
