Product Information

Best Known For

Reishi mushroom is celebrated for its comprehensive health benefits. It is particularly esteemed for enhancing immune system function, thanks to its high content of polysaccharides and triterpenes, which help modulate the immune response. Reishi is also recognized for its potential anti-cancer properties and is often used as a supplement during traditional cancer treatments. Additionally, this mushroom is known to aid in stress reduction and improve sleep, attributes that contribute to its nickname as the "mushroom of immortality." Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects further support general well-being. Reishi is available in several forms, including teas, capsules, and extracts, making it easy to incorporate into daily health routines.

Did you know?

Immune System Booster: Reishi mushrooms are rich in beta-glucans and polysaccharides, which are known to enhance the immune system by increasing the activity of white blood cells. This helps the body fight off infections and diseases more effectively.

Stress Relief and Sleep Aid: Reishi has adaptogenic properties, which means it helps the body adapt to stress and promotes relaxation. It is also known for its ability to improve sleep quality, making it a popular supplement for those dealing with stress and insomnia.

Directions for Use

The daily serving / dose for this extract is 1000mg, or about 1/2 teaspoon per day. Because the density and weight of each extract can vary, it is best to measure out 1000mg (1 gram) on a kitchen scale to be precise, but a little more or less is not a concern.
This extract can be easily added to a cup of coffee or tea, a smoothie or shake, or into soups or other foods.
While there is no "best time" to take it, we find that mornings are best because of the energy boost that is often associated with it.

Product Attributes

Reishi extract powder emanates a calming, woody aroma with a touch of bitterness, presented in a striking reddish-brown to deep mahogany colour. The flavour is earthy with a hint of herbal bitterness, characteristic of traditional Reishi, providing a grounding and enriching taste experience.

*Each batch of extract will have a slightly different colour due to many factors. We NEVER bleach our products.

***This product is NOT just ground up mushroom powder. It is a concentrated powder containing nutrients that are carefully extracted using state of the art techniques. Our powder is concentrated at a ratio of about 100 to 1 which means you’d need to eat 100 grams of Reishi Mushroom fruiting body just to get the same amount as 1 gram of our powder. In addition, when eating the mushroom, your body cannot absorb many of the nutrients because they are locked up in the mushroom cell structure or ‘chitin’ which our bodies cannot break down.
This is a one month supply. The recommended daily dose is 1200 mg (about half a teaspoon). It’s great in shakes, coffee, tea, or in any other food.
We use this product on a daily basis and have been using it for several years now. We believe in it’s medicinal properties and we want to share them with you.
Reishi mushroom, or Ganoderma lucidum, has been used for centuries because of its nootropic properties. The hericinenes (micronutrients) have the ability to cross the blood/brain barrier and have been shown to improve cognitive performance and to promote general brain health.

Fruiting body vs Mycelium and Spores

There is a lot of discussion around which parts of the mushroom should be used for extraction. Here is a short explanation:
In mushrooms, the part that is typically used for extracting nutrients and compounds is the fruiting body, which is the visible part of the mushroom that emerges above ground. This is because the fruiting body contains most of the bioactive compounds, including vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other beneficial substances.

The fruiting body is rich in nutrients and bioactive compounds because it is where the reproductive structures of the mushroom develop. These structures contain various substances that the mushroom needs for growth and reproduction, as well as compounds that help defend against pathogens and predators.

However, it's worth noting that different parts of the mushroom may have different nutritional profiles and concentrations of bioactive compounds. For example, some mushrooms also produce mycelium, the underground network of fungal threads, which can also contain valuable nutrients and compounds. Additionally, certain species of mushrooms may have medicinal properties associated with specific parts of the organism, such as the mycelium or even the spores. Therefore, the specific part of the mushroom used for extraction can depend on the desired nutrients or compounds and the intended use.

We always use the fruiting body for our extracts but we are also working on developing special compound extracts from other parts like the mycelium and spores. Keep an eye on our blogs and subscribe to our newsletter to get notified of these advancements as they happen.

Extraction Process

We use a very unique and effective dual or triple extraction process that includes enzymatic extraction, hot water extraction and even solvent extraction for certain mushrooms and/or desired compounds. This ensures that all of the beneficial nutrients are extracted from the mushroom fruiting body. It also breaks down the chitin.

Chitin is like the tough armor that mushrooms wear, similar to how insects have their exoskeletons. This armor protects the mushroom's cells, but it's tough for our bodies to break down and use as food.

For us to get the nutrients from mushrooms, we need to break down this armor into smaller, digestible parts. Enzymes called chitinases do this job. They break down the chitin into smaller pieces that our bodies can absorb and use for energy.

So, without breaking down chitin, we can't get the nutrients from mushrooms.

Botanical Information

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is often referred to as the "mushroom of immortality" due to its long history of use in Asian medicinal practices. This fungus is recognized for its glossy, red varnished appearance and kidney-shaped cap. Reishi is prized for its ability to support immune function and increase longevity. It's commonly utilized to help reduce stress and improve sleep quality. Moreover, reishi has potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making it beneficial for overall health maintenance. The mushroom is also used in managing high blood pressure and supporting liver health. Reishi can be consumed as tea, taken in capsule form, or added to various health supplements, making it adaptable for various health regimens.

For Pets

Reishi mushroom extract is highly regarded for its extensive health benefits in pets, particularly for its immune-enhancing and anti-inflammatory properties. It supports cardiovascular health, helps manage stress, and promotes liver detoxification. Reishi is rich in antioxidants, which help combat oxidative stress and may slow aging. Additionally, its calming properties can be beneficial for pets with anxiety or nervousness. Regular supplementation with reishi can improve overall wellness and longevity in pets, making it a valuable addition to their diet.

The daily dose for dogs and cats is about 10 mg per pound mixed into their food.
For example, if your dog is 50 pounds, they would get 500 mg or about a quarter teaspoon.

Exploring the Potential Medicinal Benefits of Ganoderma lucidum: From Metabolic Disorders to Coronavirus Infections

Ganoderma lucidum, a type of mushroom used in Chinese medicine for ages, has gained attention for its health benefits. Studies suggest it has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immune-boosting effects. Recent research has looked into its potential in managing diabetes, obesity, and even fighting infections like the coronavirus.

G. lucidum contains compounds called triterpenoids, which seem to help with diabetes by improving insulin sensitivity and lowering blood sugar levels. They also aid in weight loss and boost the immune system. Another component, polysaccharides, enhances the body's immune response by activating certain white blood cells.

While lab studies show G. lucidum might inhibit coronavirus infection, human trials are needed to confirm this. So, while it shows promise, it's too soon to say if it can effectively prevent or treat coronavirus in people.
